Morgan Denton

Manager of Drafting Services

FABCON employee for 10 years

When Morgan Denton interviews candidates at FABCON, he tells them about his own personal experience working there.

“I started at FABCON with the intent of staying here for a couple of years,” says Denton. “I thought it would be something that would look good on my resume. I didn’t think a concrete company would meet what I was looking for in a career, but quickly realized I was wrong.”

Now an 18-year veteran of FABCON, Denton is the Manager of Drafting Services and enjoys the fast pace and constant change he sees every day.

“I know people who work at big architectural firms who work on the same building for two years and that would bore me,” laughs Denton. “If you want something that’s challenging and constantly changing, you should come aboard.”

We asked Denton a few questions about his job and what he likes about FABCON. Here’s what he told us:

My daily duties:“Officially, I manage the drafting department workflow and scheduling, and make sure we meet the internal and external customers’ timelines.”Best part of working at FABCON:

“I like that every day is not the same. The fast pace and the constant change keeps the job fresh. We are always challenged to be innovative. We’re always developing new products, new locations, and reinventing the way we work within our own departments. For example the engineering department completely changed in 2009 so that they could be allowed to work from home. We try new things to see what works.”

What I appreciate most about FABCON:

“I appreciate the commitment of the people that I work with to continually improve their relationships and business interactions to make the job better, easier and more enjoyable.”

Why I would encourage others to work at FABCON

“FABCON is a company that prides itself on promoting from within. I started as a basic drafter and have held 4-5 different positions, and have now moved across the country to start a new location. There really is a lot of opportunity to learn, grow and try different challenges.”

He adds that the ability to adapt to change is a key component to working there.
“The people that stick around can adapt to change but also embrace change. If you embrace change, you can help shape it to make it a better place for yourself and your coworkers.”

When he’s not at work, Denton spends his time in a variety of active ways. He volunteers two nights week teaching self-defense to children and adults. He enjoys yoga, going to the gym and outdoor activities like hiking, camping and concerts.
